Human Rights and Democracy: they are terms we often hear, they are at the core of our organisations and we want everyone to respect them. But what do Democracy and Human Rights really mean? How can we educate for them in our organisations? And how can we put these big words into practice?

At the IFM-SEI Study Session in Strasbourg, we will discuss these questions, share our methodology for Human Rights Education and Education for Democratic Citizenship, and think about how we can promote this kind of education in our organisations and beyond.
We will use the child-friendly version of the Council of Europe Charter for Human Rights Education and Education for Democratic Citizenship to inspire us and help us to improve our work for Human Rights and Democracy!
We are looking for motivated participants from our member organisations and other youth organisations who have experience of working directly with children or young people and will be ready and willing to multiply what they have learned by running HRE/EDC activities in their groups and in promoting HRE/EDC among other youth leaders on their return.

Objectives:
 To introduce Human Rights and Democratic Citizenship and education for Human Rights and Democracy
 To introduce the Charter on Human Rights Education and Education for Democratic Citizenship
 To provide the space for participants to share good practices and challenges on Human Rights Education and Education for Democratic Citizenship
 To learn how to plan and run Human Rights educational processes
 To familiarize participants with Compasito, the new Compass, the Charter4All and other existing tools on HRE to ensure they become comfortable using them.
 To develop concrete plans to promote HRE/EDC in participants’ organisations and beyond according to their contexts

Date: 10-17 May 2015

Place: European Youth Centre, Strasbourg (France)

Costs: Participation fee of 50 Euro; Reimbursement of travel and VISA costs

The study session is held in co‐operation with the Youth Department of the Council of Europe.

Profile of participants:
 You should be between 18 and 30 years old (exceptions possible)
 You should be able to work in English
 You should work with children or young people in youth organisations on a regular basis
 You should be motivated to work on the topic of the study session
 You should be willing to use what you have learned in a children or youth group
 You must be able to participate for the whole duration of the study session
